Evidence Based Design Elementary School

For this project we simultaneously wrote a research paper. We used the evidence found in our research to design a space of our choosing.

I designed “test fit” classrooms during my internship and one of the main things we incorporated was safety.

My project focused on creating a safer school environment. This focus was to primarily assist the students and staff feel safe in the event of an active shooter situation.

Research Application

1: All Glass is bullet resistant up to five shots from an AR-10

2: Manned security office enabling oversight of the school ground the entire day

3: Exit doors from all classrooms

4: Classrooms in the back of the school to limit access to outside guests

5: Guests must be buzzed into the building and escorted when inside the school by an employee

6: Bullet resistant movable whiteboards in the hall areas
